  17. <p>    As he worked on his new book Tales from Margaritaville,
  18. singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett would "read the stories to my
  19. dogs." Cheeseburger, a golden retriever, and Spring, a springer
  20. spaniel, woofed their approval. He hoped that "the folks who
  21. bought my records are readers as well." They are. Instead of
  22. wastin' away, the collection of yarns about living in the slow
  23. lane has jumped high on the best-seller lists, good news for the
  24. Key West, Fla., troubadour whose last big hit tune was ten years
  25. ago. Mellow fellow Buffett, 42, is now putting together songs
  26. for a Broadway musical, and has just finished his second
  27. children's book with daughter Savannah Jane, 10. Let the critics
  28. bark.
